41 Killed, 1,500 Injured After Major Japan Earthquake
https://weather.com/safety/earthquake/news/major-earthquake-japan-impacts

The death toll continues to rise after a 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit southern Japan's Kyushu Island early Saturday morning local time. At least 41 people have been confirmed dead and as many as 1,500 have been injured. The quake hit virtually the same location as Thursday's deadly, damaging 6.2 magnitude foreshock. The latest tremor occurred Saturday morning at 1:25 a.m. local time (12:25 p.m. EDT Friday) at a depth of 6.2 miles, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. According to local police, Saturday's quake killed 32 people.

The quake's epicenter was in Kumamoto Prefecture just miles from the location of Thursday's temblor that killed nine people and left more than 800 injured. An aftershock measuring 5.4 hit southern Kyushu island on Saturday morning. Citing officials in Kumamoto prefecture, Kyodo News Agency says four people are still missing in Minamiaso, the Associated Press reports. Police received reports of 97 cases of people buried or trapped under collapsed buildings, while 10 people were caught in landslides, according to Kyodo.

The Fire and Disaster Management Agency said 66 people were trapped inside of a nursing home in Mashiki, the hardest hit town, according to AP. A major landslide was also reported in Minam Aso. The extent of the damage from that landslide is not yet clear. "Extensive damage is probable and the disaster is likely widespread," said USGS.Local media reported that nearly 200,000 homes were without power and an estimated 400,000 households were without running water.

Aside from the bombers, 25 of the dead have now been identified but at this stage only 21 names have been released

Loubna Lafquiri, Belgium-Morocco The gymnastics teacher at an Islamic school in the Schaerbeek district of Brussels had three children. She died in the suicide bombing on the metro at Maelbeek.

Lauriane Visart, Belgium, 27, The jurist and legal adviser was killed in the metro attack. Her father, an economics correspondent for the state broadcaster RTBF, appeared on an evening bulletin and said: “Lauriane had extremely strong values that she fiercely defended, including equality, justice, tolerance, gender equality. I’m not naive, I know very well that security is essential today. But I think that if we build walls of exclusion, if we cultivate hatred, we’re heading for disaster. If we want a different world in the future, we need respect, tolerance and love. And we owe that to all the Laurianes in the world.”

Sabrina Fazal, Belgium, 24, The nursing student was on her way to college when she was killed in the metro attack.

Justin and Stephanie Shults, US Justin Shults, 30, and his wife Stephanie, 29, who had lived in Brussels for two years, were killed at the airport. A family member said they were dropping Stephanie’s mother off and were watching her walk through security when the bombs went off. The White House said Obama offered his condolences and praised the couple as epitomising all that was good about America. Justin Shults was originally from Gatlinburg, Tennessee, and his wife was a native of Lexington, Kentucky. They graduated together from Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management...
